Okinawa Shurijo Castle Park
The building, which had been damaged and burned down several times, was rebuilt in the style of the Tang Dynasty and was a symbolic building of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
-As one of the largest wooden buildings on Okinawa, it has a distinct Ryukyu style and combines features of traditional Chinese and Japanese architecture.
-Similar in appearance and style to the Minnan region of China, the main hall was once the site of important ceremonies for the Ryukyu Kingdom.
-The Shurijo Castle Festival is held from October 26 to November 4 every year to simulate the visit of Chinese emissaries during the Ryukyu Dynasty.
Shuri Kanagi Town Stone Pavement
Kanagi Town Stone Path is a stone path on the south side of Shurijo Castle. Although it is not very long, only about 300 meters long, it is one of the "Top 100 Roads in Japan". As you walk along the Ryukyu lime-paved stone path and look at the Okinawan houses with red-tile roofs on both sides of the stone walls, you can feel the richness of the old Shuri Castle. The fact that this path survived the Second World War despite the destruction of the surrounding area can be called a "miracle.
From around 1400 AD, a diplomatic mission of Chinese envoys was sent from China to Okinawa. If I go to Okinawa, I can feel the presence of Chinese culture, and the place where I can feel it the most is Shurijo Castle. Shurijo Castle is very popular with tourists as a place to welcome envoys from China. Unfortunately, it burned down in 2019.
