Nakajima Taishodo Kakigori (Shaved Ice) Now on Sale! Limited Flavors at the Tanba Main Store and Yodoyabashi Store, plus Tanba Chestnut Ice Cream Mont Blanc

Nakajima Taishodo Kakigori (Shaved Ice) Now on Sale! Limited Flavors at the Tanba Main Store and Yodoyabashi Store, plus Tanba Chestnut Ice Cream Mont Blanc

When traveling to Kansai in the summer, in addition to cafes and matcha desserts, Japanese shaved ice is also worth adding to your itinerary. Nakajima Taishodo will be offering limited-edition summer shaved ice flavors starting June 2026 at their Tamba Main Store in Hyogo and Yodoyabashi Store in Osaka. Using ingredients such as Tamba hojicha, black soybean kuromitsu, Tamba Dainagon adzuki beans, Tamba strawberries, and Uji matcha, these desserts are in the refined style of a Japanese confectionery shop, not simply shaved ice with syrup.

If you're planning to visit Tamba, the Tamba main store complements the old town and natural scenery. If your itinerary is mainly within Osaka city, the Yodoyabashi store is in the Kitahama and Yodoyabashi area, suitable to be included before or after a walk around Nakanoshima or shopping in Umeda. The selling periods, prices, and limited flavors differ between the two stores, so it's best to check them carefully before you go to avoid disappointment.

Two stores have different sales periods.

The shaved ice sale period at the Tanba main store is scheduled from June 12, 2026, to September 13, 2026. The Yodoyabashi store is scheduled from June 15, 2026, to September 30, 2026. If you plan to visit in mid to late September, the Yodoyabashi store would be a safer option. If you want to try the three limited flavors at the Tanba main store, you'll need to schedule your visit before September 13.

Both stores offer dine-in cafes and some items for takeout. The shaved ice itself is not suitable for eating while walking due to its size and melting speed, so we recommend setting aside a full afternoon tea time to enjoy it seated. Especially during weekends and summer vacation, popular times may require waiting.

Tambanogonten Limited Edition Three Flavors Shaved Ice

Tambaji Main Store Exclusive Tambaji Roasted Green Tea and Black Bean Soy Flour Espuma, priced at ¥1,760. The aroma of the roasted green tea sauce, the gentle sweetness of the black bean soy flour, combined with the substantial texture of Tambaji Dainagon red beans. Tambaji Dainagon red bean paste is hidden within the ice, and the layers become more apparent with each bite.

Another offering is the Tamba Dainagon Azuki Bean and Uji Matcha Espuma for ¥1,760. This dessert features Uji matcha syrup and matcha espuma, creating a mature, bittersweet flavor. Inside, you'll find Tamba Dainagon azuki bean paste and vanilla ice cream. Those who enjoy matcha, red bean, and Japanese confectionery-style desserts can prioritize this selection.

The Tamba Strawberry Luxury Shaved Ice, also priced at 1,760 yen, is made with homemade Tamba strawberry jam and vanilla ice cream, topped with smooth espuma and toasted brown rice meringue. The strawberry, dairy, and brown rice aromas alternate, offering more textural and aromatic variations than regular strawberry shaved ice.

The Yodoyabashi store's limited edition flavor is more suitable for an Osaka city itinerary.

The Yodoyabashi store exclusive Tamba Dainagon Red Bean and Uji Matcha Mont Blanc Shaved Ice is ¥1,705. The shaved ice is covered with finely piped matcha cream, with homemade Tamba Dainagon red bean paste and vanilla ice cream inside. It's like a summer version of a matcha Mont Blanc.

The Yodoyabashi branch also sells luxurious shaved ice made with Tanba strawberries for ¥1,705, but the size is different from the Tanba main store. If you're looking for a stylish dessert shop in Osaka that doesn't require traveling to the suburbs for your solo trip, the Yodoyabashi branch is easier to fit into your itinerary than the Tanba main store. Nearby, you can combine it with a visit to Kitahama cafes, a walk around Nakanoshima, or taking photos near the Osaka Central Public Hall.

Tambanuri chestnut Mont Blanc also has a summer ice cream version.

Nakajima Taishodo's signature Tamba Chestnut Freshly Squeezed Mont Blanc also has a summer-limited soft mochi ice cream version. Ice cream is placed on a crispy tart crust, wrapped in soft gyuhi, and then topped with Mont Blanc cream made from rare Tamba chestnuts. The price at the Tamba main store is 2,970 yen, sold from May 11 to September 30, 2026. The price at the Yodoyabashi store is 1,650 yen, sold from May 1 to September 30, 2026. Ice cream flavors are matcha or vanilla, and the sizes differ at the two stores.

If someone in your group doesn't want shaved ice, this Mont Blanc ice cream version is great for sharing. The Tamba chestnut flavor is rich and the sweetness is more refined than typical tourist spot desserts. It's substantial enough to be the star of an afternoon tea.

JOY JAPAN Recommended Playstyles

If you want to experience the charm of Tamba ingredients themselves, choose the Tamba Main Store; if you want to easily enjoy limited edition desserts in Osaka city, choose the Yodoyabashi Store. The Tamba Main Store is more like a destination dessert trip, suitable for self-driving or combining with a Tamba stroll. The Yodoyabashi Store is suitable for cooling down in the store during the hot afternoon, and then moving north to Kitahama, Nakanoshima, or Umeda. Both shaved ice and Mont Blanc are seasonal limited items. If you are going for a specific flavor, it is recommended to avoid going too close to closing time to reduce the risk of popular items selling out.
