Ikebukuro Tobu Great Kyushu Fair Arrives July 29th! Enjoy Brand Beef Bento Boxes, Chilled Desserts, and Mentaiko Delicacies All at Once for a Taste of Kyushu.

This summer in Tokyo, you don't necessarily need to buy a plane ticket to eat your way through Kyushu. Tobu Department Store Ikebukuro Main Store will be holding an event from July 29th to August 4th, 2026, on the 8th floor event space [...]Great Kyushu FairFeaturing 77 stores across Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima prefectures, this event showcases local cuisine and crafts. July 29th perfectly aligns with "Meat Day," so this time, Kyushu's brand beef, chicken, and black pork dishes are highlighted, complemented by refreshing summer desserts and mentaiko delicacies, allowing travelers to experience a tour of Kyushu without leaving Ikebukuro.

For Taiwanese travelers, this type of department store product exhibition is perfect for a hot or rainy afternoon. It's directly connected to Ikebukuro Station, making transportation easy. After shopping, you can continue to explore the department store, drugstores, anime merchandise, or the surrounding commercial area. If you won't be traveling to Kyushu anytime soon, the "Great Kyushu Fair" is a great opportunity to experience the taste of Kyushu in about a meal's time.

Meat-lovers first: Kyushu's 4 prefectural brand beef bento boxes

One of the main themes of this Great Kyushu Fair is meat cuisine. Kairodo from Saga is offering Saga beef consommé-marinated rump cap with sukiyaki bento for 2,484 yen (10% off), with limited quantities available daily. Fukuoka's Top Premium is making its first appearance, bringing Hakata Wagyu diced steak and beef plate bento for 2,580 yen (10% off), with an estimated 30 portions available daily.

Hakusuinokura in Kumamoto is offering a Red-Beef T-bone steak and Yakiniku box for 10% off at 2,484 yen, with an estimated 30 portions available daily. YAKINIKU HITOKIWA from Miyazaki is having its first pop-up, selling Miyazaki Wagyu lean steak bento boxes for 10% off at 2,301 yen, with a daily limited quantity. If you want to compare Kyushu brand beef, these four options are worth considering, but the popular live-cooking bento boxes often sell out early, so it's recommended to arrive around lunchtime.

Chilled desserts that must be eaten in summer

Kagoshima Imokura offers the Imokura Sundae made with Kagoshima-grown Beni Haruka sweet potato, featuring ice cream, daigaku imo (candied sweet potato), and sweet potato. It costs 990 yen for dine-in and is limited to an estimated 50 servings per day. Kagoshima Satsumaimo Honpo offers a chilled sweet potato smoothie for 770 yen per cup, with limited availability.

Amami flavors are also worth noting. Kagoshima Tatchan's gelato is offering a double-scoop "Tankan & Gatsumaki" for 814 yen per cup, with an estimated 50 servings per day. Fukuoka COCO GELATO will be bringing refrigerated Dubai chocolate mochi for 651 yen each, and a Tobu exclusive Dubai chocolate tricolor gelato for 1,351 yen for dine-in. It's visually striking with strawberry, milk, and pistachio colors paired with crispy kadaif.

Spicy cod roe, chicken, black pork, and seafood are also not to be missed.

For those who like mentaiko, you can try the Kagoshima Prefecture-produced Kuroge Wagyu Mentaiko Cheese Burger from Kagoshima Shabushi Burger for 1,998 yen each (estimated 30 servings daily); Mentaiko French bread from Fukuoka Futaro for 501 yen per loaf; and Hakata Mentaiko croquettes from Fukuoka Nanri Masanobu Shoten for 1,944 yen for 6 pieces.

Chicken and pork also give a strong Kyushu vibe. How can travelers explore most efficiently?

If you want to eat the limited-edition bento boxes and freshly prepared items, it's recommended to arrive early on a weekday. Purchase your main meal first, then take your time looking at the desserts. If you're only interested in desserts and souvenirs, you can go in the afternoon, but the daily limited items may be reduced by then. The area around Ikebukuro Station is crowded. If you're buying bento boxes or seafood items, it's best to consume them as soon as possible on the same day and avoid carrying them around for extended periods.

A "Kyushu Travel Preview" at the Grand Kyushu Fair is a great addition to a Tokyo itinerary. From Saga beef and Hakata Wagyu to Kagoshima sweet potatoes, Fukuoka mentaiko, and Nagasaki mackerel sushi, you can sample flavors from many prefectures at once. For travelers who don't want to be exposed to the sun in the summer, this department store food exhibition, directly accessible from the station, is a relaxing and rewarding Tokyo afternoon option.
