A must-visit for Hokkaido Chitose Salmon lovers! Salmon Park Chitose 1000 Day Thanksgiving Festival
If you happen to be passing through New Chitose Airport or the city of Chitose around the end of May, and you enjoy salmon dishes, Roadside Station Salmon Park Chitose is well worth a special stop. From May 16th to May 31st, 2026, the facility will be hosting the "Salmon Park 1000-Day Grand Thanksgiving Festival." Simultaneously, the popular restaurant "Kaisendon-ya Toto Maru" has been renovated into a salmon bowl specialty store, offering everything from visually stunning seafood bowls to limited-time challenge events that are sure to generate buzz.
For Taiwanese travelers, Chitose is often seen as a transit point to enter and exit Hokkaido, but it's actually very suitable for a short stay before or after flying. The Michi-no-Eki offers dining, merchandise, a family space, and parking. If you're driving to Sapporo, Lake Shikotsu, or Noboribetsu, it can serve as a resupply and lunch stop.

The renovated "Seafood Bowl Toto Maru" specializes in various salmon bowls. The signature dish, the "Salmon Teppen Bowl," is a visually striking creation piled high with generous amounts of salmon, salmon paste, and salmon roe. It can be finished as a chazuke (rice porridge) by adding a rich seafood broth. The price is ¥2,750.
The even more extravagant "Salmon Run Bowl (鮭の遡上丼)" uses a life-sized salmon-shaped container and has a total weight of about 1.2kg. The male salmon version costs 4,620 yen, and the female salmon version costs 8,580 yen. It's suitable for sharing among multiple people or for those who want to take a representative photo of their Hokkaido trip.
1000-day thank you event; key project also in late May
The event runs from May 16th to May 31st, with many campaigns centered around "1000." From May 25th to 29th, there will be a "10-second Stop Donburi" challenge with an entry fee of 1,000 yen. On May 30th, there's a free-to-enter "10-second Toki Shirazu Challenge" where successful participants have a chance to win a whole frozen Toki Shirazu salmon.
On May 31st, the "1000-Second Salmon Bowl Challenge" will also be held, where mini salmon bowls are continuously served in the style of the famous Iwate "Wanko Soba." Participants will challenge themselves to eat as many as possible within a 1000-second time limit. The participation fee is 1,000 yen, and 10 people will be chosen by lottery on the day. If you happen to arrive in Hokkaido during the latter half of the event, these activities will be more entertaining than dining at a typical roadside station.
