Tokyo Station 1-minute walk! Marunouchi MITAN 9th Anniversary Special: Ginza Ginza Sake List and Autumn French Bistro Cuisine

After shopping at Tokyo Station and preparing to find a restaurant that isn't too formal but still allows for good drinking and eating, I went to Marunouchi.MITANPerfect for a getaway. Located on the ground floor of the New Maru Building, this French wine bar will be hosting its 9th anniversary event from October 26 to 31. Normally served in whole bottles, Burgundy wines will be available in limited-edition single-serve options, paired with autumn-themed special dishes. For travelers in Taiwan who don’t want to buy a whole bottle at once but still want to try different styles from different regions, this is a great stop to add to your evening meal at Tokyo Station.

Burgandy wine has been converted to single-serving bottles; there is no pressure to try it for the first time.

The highlight of the event is a limited-edition single-glass wine. The list includes wines from the Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet wine regions, as well as Nuits-Saint-Georges and Volnay, famous for their red wines. These types of wines are often served in their whole bottle, and the price and portion size can leave travelers wondering; single-glass servings allow two people to choose different colors and regions, making them ideal for a drink before dinner or as a leisurely companion to a main course.

Wine selection, year of production, price, and availability are subject to the day of the week. If you specifically want to try a particular wine, we recommend asking when you make a reservation; don’t rush to go for the most expensive bottle; just tell the waiter your preferences—whether you prefer a dry or sweet wine, and whether you prefer a smooth or full-bodied one—and you’ll usually find a combination that suits you better. The servings at Japanese restaurants are small, so start with one glass first, leaving some space for the food to be more comfortable.

Autumn special dishes: you can pair wine with everything from appetizers to main courses

The anniversary menu combines French techniques with autumn ingredients from Japan. The appetizers include a Mont Blanc-shaped mousse of chicken liver and foie gras, a Kintoa raw ham salad with seasonal fruits, and a cheese-flower salad with shrimp; the main dishes include a Kinki mushroom cream dumpling, whole crab tomato cream rice, tempura shrimp, and a wide noodle dish with deer meat sauce. If you are traveling with two people, order a share of appetizers first, then choose your own main dish; compared to ordering just one dish per person, you can enjoy different flavors.

For dessert, be sure to check out the anniversary-only chocolate toffee mini crème brûlée. The toffee has an almond, apricot, and sweet wine-like aroma, and when paired with chocolate it is perfect as a finish to red wine or after-dinner coffee. Limited quantities available; if you wish to bring it back to your hotel as dessert or as a souvenir to Taiwan, please ask before checking out if it is still available and how to store it.

How do you get the most convenient access to Tokyo Station from Marunouchi?

MITAN is located on the 1st floor of the New Marunomachi Building, about a 1-minute walk from the Marunouchi Line exit of Tokyo Station or the JR Tokyo Station. In the afternoon, you can first visit Marunouchi, the Imperial Palace Gardens, or the Red Brick Station Building at Tokyo Station; in the evening, return to the New Marunomachi Building for dinner; if you still have time in the afternoon, walking to Marunouchi Chuo or KITTE’s rooftop garden is also convenient. The underground floor is especially convenient in rainy weather; you don’t have to travel too far when moving with luggage from the station.

Open until 23:00 on Fridays; other days close earlier. If you plan to have the anniversary celebration as dinner, the crowd on Friday night is usually the largest, so reservations are more secure. If you just want a drink with a snack, arriving later in the afternoon or early in the morning will be more relaxed. When dining, please check the last order time; especially for passengers who are preparing to take the Shinkansen or airport bus, don’t push the transfer time too tight.
