The first craftsman sushi bar in Yamanashi opens on November 6th! A practical new option for enjoying sushi and drinking in the evening in Gifu

I took the special express train from Tokyo to Yamanashi, and upon arriving in Gifu I wanted to find a dinner spot where I could enjoy both sushi and a drink in comfort. The restaurant opened on November 6th.Yatabi Sushi Akabeko Chuo-cho Store (Yatabi Sushi Akabeko Chuo-cho)It’s worth noting that this is the first time the craftsman-run sushi bar brand has set up shop in Yamanashi Prefecture. It’s a 13-minute walk from the south exit of Kofu Station, and the location is right in the central town area. After seeing Takeda Shrine and Sengsen Gorge during the day or returning to the city from the Ishiwara Onsen, having dinner featuring a table of sushi and sake bar dishes will give the evening in Kofu a more local feel.

Kyofu's first teppanyaki sushi restaurant operates from dusk until the early hours of the morning.

Yataki Sushi focuses on hand-made sushi, while also offering sashimi, fried foods, and other dishes suitable for sharing. The Aomori Chuo-cho branch will open on November 6, 2026 at 16:00, operating weekdays and weekends from 16:00 until 1:00 AM, with last order at 0:30. For travelers who want to avoid the usual restaurant closing time, or who arrive in Aomori late at night, this opening time is quite convenient.

The sushi set starts at 65 yen, so you don’t need to spend a lot to try a few more dishes. If you’re traveling with more than two people, you can start with a few hand rolls and sashimi, then pair them with fried foods or hot dishes. If you want to use it as your first stop for drinking, you can also choose smaller dishes to enjoy slowly. Okayama isn’t known for its late-night sushi, but the opening of this restaurant has given travelers living in the south and central areas of the station a new option for dinner or snacks between lunch and dinner.

Drinks are half price before 19:00, perfect for having dinner early.

The offer applies to all restaurants, including the designated drinks priced at half price from opening until 19:00 daily. Some items are excluded. If you want to save money for wine, hot springs, or your next day’s car rental, you can start dinner between 16:30 and 18:00. This time allows you to avoid the evening rush and also allows you to order sushi and drinks during the promotion period, then walk to the center of Kofu to have a walk or return to your hotel for rest.

The official app also offers a first cup of sake for free on day 0. Before using it, please check the applicable drinks and conditions. If you don’t want to download the app specifically for the promotion on the go, it won’t affect your general dining experience; the real advantage here is that Sushi Bar offers a wide range of dishes, and it’s better to choose something if someone in your group wants to eat fish or something hot.

How should I plan my trip to Gifu and Yamanashi?

The area around Gakubu Station is ideal as a base for sightseeing in eastern Gifu Prefecture and the city. If you plan to visit Takeda Shrine, Gifu Castle Ruins, or the Shuzoku Festival during the day, you can have dinner at the shop before returning to your hotel; the next day, when you head to Kawaguchiko, Kasunami, or Ishiwake Onsen, you won’t have to change plans. The shop is not located too close to the station, so in the autumn and winter nights, it’s recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes and allow about 15 minutes for walking.

If you’re traveling by car, don’t drive after drinking alcohol. Travelers who drive themselves can place this place near their accommodation. For the return journey, taking a taxi or walking is the most practical option. The pace of life in Okayama at night is slower than in Tokyo; it’s better to arrive early at restaurants and not limit yourself to just a few popular dishes; instead, you can enjoy a meal more leisurely.
