Enjoy the seasonal live oysters from Awaji Island until the end of November! Enjoy 4 types of live oysters in a single dish by the view of the Minami Strait Bridge
If you plan to visit Kansai in autumn and want to spend a day in Awaji from Kobe, don't miss the limited offer that only runs until the end of November.Daiso Island live scallops (Daiso Island live shrimp)This local specialty has been on the menu for the 16th year this year; there are 64 restaurants on the island offering it; among them, the Awaji Station on the Tomei Road faces the Minamiishi Strait Bridge, and in one facility you can enjoy four different types of sashimi fish bowl; it’s perfect for arranging lunch when traveling to the island by car or high-speed bus.
Why is the live-bearer fish from Awaji Island worth eating specially?
Shiroko fish tends to deteriorate easily, so in Japan it is often cooked and made into steamed shiroko fish or dried products. On Awaji Island, after catching the fish, it is quickly processed and frozen, allowing travelers to enjoy fresh shiroko fish that retains its freshness in the restaurant on the island. The characteristic flavor of this dish is not strong and rich, but rather soft and delicate, with a hint of sea flavor; when paired with white rice, herbs, and other seasonings and sauces, it is perfect for a fall lunch when the weather is still comfortable.
Supplies are expected to run out by November 30th, and you can still enjoy the food normally until the end of the month. During the September holidays, there was a temporary shortage due to a high volume of orders, so if you plan to visit during the weekend or holidays, it’s best not to arrive too late. For the best experience, we recommend placing your order for the Day of the Inn lunch around 11:00 AM and finishing your meal before heading along the coast to avoid the peak hours in the midday rush.
How to choose the 4 types of sashimi fish bowl at Dazaido Station?
The Oshi no Yado’s seafood bowl shop, Osaikan Gumi (Oshina Republic Ebisuru), offers two types of sashimi bowl at 1,180 yen and 1,380 yen; the restaurant on the second floor, Kaishou-no-Yu (Kaishou Tower), offers two choices at 1,280 yen and 1,580 yen. Each store has different combinations and portions, but the common feature is that the sashimi is complemented by a special soy sauce that doesn’t overpower the seafood.
You can start with the basic version, which is more affordable. If you want to sit for a longer time and enjoy the view of the Minamiishi Strait Bridge along the way, the restaurant on the second floor might be a better choice. When ordering, you can try the original flavor first, then add a spicy sauce. Finally, adjust the sauce with more soy sauce according to your personal taste. The taste of the kissaki is delicate, and adding too much soy sauce at once can easily overpower the flavor.
Lunch Arrangements from Kobe to Awaji Island
Daiso Station is located at the northern end of Awaji Island. It is a quick drive from Kobe via the Minamiishi Strait Bridge, making it a great starting point for a self-drive tour of the island. When not driving, it is best to first take the express bus from Shin-Kobe Station to Awaji Island, then arrange for transportation or a taxi to make it more practical. You can visit the Minamiishi Strait Bridge, the Awaji Island Park, the coastal cafe, and the Shobiko fish bowl in the same day; you don’t have to specifically go to the southern end of the island for a meal.

A small reminder for Taiwanese travelers
Spiny lobsters are best eaten raw. Travelers who are less comfortable with raw fish can choose other seafood dishes first. If your trip only allows you to stay on Awaji Island for half a day, the most efficient combination is to leave from Kobe in the morning and have a spiny lobster roll around 11:00 AM, then visit the Minami Awaji Bridge and other sights in the northern part of Awaji Island in the afternoon, and then return to Kobe for dinner. Taking advantage of the supply period before the end of November, this will be a Kansai-style dish with a more seasonal flavor than typical seafood rolls.
